Gone RV'ing

Well, we did it. 1600+ miles in three days!!!! And no, that isn't a typo. :-)

This past weekend, Brian and I (along with his mom, dad, and brother) went to Michigan for a surprise birthday party for Brian's grandmother. We drove up on Thursday night and got to Michigan around 10 on Friday morning -- just in time to see the dusting of snow on the ground. (Snow seems to be following us around this here. First in Yellowstone and now in Michigan. Everyone better watch out for a cold, wet winter. ;) We came back on Sunday and arrived home around midnight. (So if you're wondering, it was about a 16.5 hour trip one way.)

Definitely a long trip, but the most entertaining part was how we got there. Because of the distance, we decided to rent an RV to make the trip more comfortable. I had never been in an RV before, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It was great to have the extra room (the RV that we rented could sleep five), but I was surprised at how turbulent the ride was. You could feel everything! Lying on the bed in the back was like sleeping on a trampeline while a sumo wrestler was jumping on it. I could literally see my mother-in-law's sleeping body go momentarily airborn as we went over some of the bumps in the road. Plus, just manuvering around in an RV is an adventure itself. Banging into a kitchen cabinet door at 60 mph is not my idea of fun. I have a whole new respect for flight attendants now. How they can walk around on a turbulent plane in heels I will never figure out.

All in all, we had a pretty good trip. It was nice to finally meet all of Brian's relatives (and there are ALOT of them) and most importantly, his grandmother was very surprised. As an added bonus, I got to see all the sights in Brian's hometown, so now I know what Brian's family is always talking about.

Still I am glad to be home and back in my own bed and driving my own "small" car. And while I wouldn't rule out an RV trip again, hopefully, when we go again, we can fly. :0)
