What I Learned (or Re-Learned) in 2006

Since I can't keep resolutions, I decided that instead I should reflect on what I learned in 2006 (in no particular order):

* You never really know what people are going through. And the childhood saying "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is a big, fat lie. No matter what you say, you might unexpectedly hurt someone.

* If you have someone important in your life, express your gratitude often. You never know when life will throw you a curve, and you will need that person to lean on. Thanks, Brian, for being so patient and kind. And thanks to all of our friends for always being there for us.

* No matter how old you get, you will never understand your parents' decisions, and yet they still question yours.

* If we truly want to save the environment, our community needs to make recycling easier. What will it take before our leaders understand the implications of the amount of garbage that we are generating? Brian and I have been trying to recycle some wrapping paper and greeting cards. When we took them to the Apex recycling center listed on the Wake county Web site, the employees just laughed. I don't understand why this has to be so hard.

* Monty can lose weight. When he went for his weigh-in over the holiday, he was down to 16.5 pounds! (Instead of 17.5 pounds. That's equivalent to a person losing 10 pounds.)

* Vans Chocolates in Hendersonville, NC makes the BEST chocolates anywhere (that includes Godiva). I am becoming a chocolate snob because of them.

* Blogging can be fun! ;-)

I am sure that I learned more last year, but those are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head. Now that those are off my chest, maybe I can work on my 2006 resolutions, like exercising 3 times a week and finishing my quilt.

Here's wishing you success with all of your 2007 resolutions!
