My Little Space Cadet

Monty came home safely on Friday. The only complication from the procedure was Monty's reaction to the anesthetic. Monty has been put under twice before to have his teeth cleaned. Both times he came home a little wonky, but this time they must have doubled the dose or something 'cause I swear that cat acted like he was high. (Brian found out the next day when he took Zoey in for her annual exam that the vet even thought he was a space cadet.)

Monty came home with his tail between his legs and pupils the size of our dinner dishes. He couldn't sit still no matter how much he wanted to. He kept walking in circles. I was having flashbacks to those bad 70s movies where they show people on an acid trip. I swear if Monty put his paw in front of his face that he would be seeing 12 paws all of different colors. It would have been funny, if we didn't feel so bad for him. Finally, he crawled upstairs and went to sleep under our bed.

By Sunday, he was doing much better. He hasn't touched his foot once, so we haven't had to put the cone on him. (Not that we could if we wanted to.)

Now, we have only two problems:
1) Zoey wants nothing to do with him. Every time she walks by she hisses at Monty. I am hoping it is because he smells funny from being at the vet's and the bath they gave him. I know cats sometimes hiss at other cats when they are sick. :-(

2) On Saturday, Monty woke up with an eye infection. He usually gets those in the fall and usually when he is stressed. I guess this qualifies as a stressful occasion. By Saturday night, he was so sad. He could hardly open his left eye. Today seems better, but we figure it still warrants a visit to the vet. Sigh . . . I'm sure he'll be thrilled.

Poor guy! Sounds like he's having a rough time. You may have to give him some extra peas and pumpkin to make him feel better!
