We all know the importance of exercise. However, I learned this morning that snow plows need exercise too. On our way to work, we saw the following on the city's electronic road status signs:
Snow Removal Exercise
Watch for Snow Plows 8a-12p
When I saw the word "snow", I did a double take. Do we really get so much snow here that we need to test out the snow plows? And what are we testing? The routes? Wouldn't it be cheaper and more environmentally friendly to do that using Google Earth or maybe in a smaller car? We saw 4 huge snow plows this morning, and believe me, they weren't plowing anything. :-)
Glad to see my tax dollars hard at work.

I would like to have one good hard snow this winter. Maybe a foot or so, preferably on a Sunday (don't have to deal with parents trying to get their kids, and no work on Monday). Just enough to kill off the fleas and ticks and give us a fighting chance come springtime.
Otherwise, yeah, its stupid to have the snow plows out practicing.
OMG I bet that was a funny site to see! Now they have no excuse if it snows an inch.
Oh wait, that was the fault of stupid people, not the snow plows...
Here is wishing for a decent snow during the week this year!
I was listening to Car Talk this past weekend (we're NPR junkies), and a woman called in to the show with a question about how best to angle the snow plow on her pickup so that, if it accidentally hit the ground while she was traveling 60 mph, it wouldn't throw her truck into traffic. My guess is that practicing helps to avoid those kinds of accidents. Probably also to avoid accidentally burying drivers in giant snow piles.
