I think this is the question that I hate the most. No, hate isn't strong enough. I LOATHE this question. I always feel so awkward when someone asks me "Are you happy?"
(Although B I have to confess it is less awkward with you. :-)
Every time I am asked this question, I freeze. How am I supposed to answer? Yes, if you would get out of my face?
This question just feels too invasive, too personal to me. But maybe it is just me. Do other people get asked this question alot?

I get asked "Are you sane?" a lot. The answer is obvious.
Who is it that's asking you? That really affects my feelings toward a question like that. If I get a random sales phone call or a visit from a sales person and they ask me if I'm happy, I think I'd be more annoyed than if it was a friend or family member asking.
I would only assume they (family/friend) are asking me because they sense something is wrong and thus, it's a legitimate question. But if a sales person asks me, I assume they're going to try and sell me something that'll make me happy. And we all know the only purchasable item that can make me happy is kittens or booze and I don't need no sales person to push that one me.
I get asked that question a lot and it drives me bonkers. Don't they realize that is a such loaded question? We can go into way too much detail what we are happy about, what we are not, and how the world really is.
Debbie Downer, anyone?
