Makin' a List and Checking It Twice

Unfortunately, I am not talking about buying presents. Buying presents is fun and often easy, since I can do most of my shopping online now. This is the list of all the things that we have to do:

* Finish buying presents. I think we can knock this one off the list today. Then I hope we are done.
* Decorate the house. We are having a big family get together on Sunday, so we'd better get something up. Don't want people thinking I'm a scrooge. ;-)
* Plan the meal for Sunday. Thankfully, I don't have to cook everything, just the important stuff like the turkey.
* Shop for food. I'd better get that turkey early enough to thaw. How long does a turkey need to thaw?
* Write thank you notes for gifts. Little one better learn how to write soon. ;-)
* Gifts for the day care teachers.

I usually try to tackle a task a night. Laundry, gift wrapping, whatever. But some of these tasks are hard to finish in one night. I'd love to take some time off of work, but this week it is going to be hard to get anything done. Today, we have our department lunch, Wednesday is the day care party, Thursday & Friday are goodie days, and Thursday is my division party. That doesn't include all of the appts that I have too.

Ugh. And why do we celebrate the holidays again? One year, I would love to celebrate the way that *I* want to. I'd love to make the house look all "purty" and not have to run from this parents' house to that parents', just to make everyone happy.

Preach it, sister! How old do we have to be before we can celebrate the holidays the way we choose, rather than killing ourselves to make everyone else happy?

I tell you, having Jenn's family in Bama and mine in N. VA is nice. Each of them are just far enough away that it's pretty easy for us to not get stuck between the two. On the down side, seeing them when you want to see them becomes that much more of a challenge.

Also, I'm not even sure we're having an office party here. If we do, I usually don't find out until the day of the party. Weee!
